Every registered domain name has at least two Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain name to the servers of a certain web hosting provider. In this way, you've got both your site and your emails managed by the exact same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there is a variety of other records, like A and MX. The first one shows which server handles the website for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server manages the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, any time you enter a domain address in your browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain uses and from there you could be forwarded to the servers of a different provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your Internet domain. Having independent records for the site and the emails means you may have your website and your emails with two different companies if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting through us, you'll be able to see, set up and change any A or MX record for your domains. As long as a given domain has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to change specific records via our Hepsia hosting CP and have your site or e-mails pointed to any other provider if you would like to use only one of our services. Our state-of-the-art tool will even allow you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main Internet domain at all. If you choose to use the e-mail services of a different company and they want you to set up more than two MX records, you can easily do this with simply a few clicks in the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can even set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you buy a semi-dedicated server plan from us, you are going to be able to view and edit the A and MX records for any one of the domain addresses or subdomains which you host inside the account. The Hepsia Control Panel, which you'll get to take care of the account, provides an sophisticated, although easy-to-use tool in which all hosts will be listed in alphabetical order and you are going to be able to edit their records with no more than several clicks. If you have to create a new record, it's going to be equally easy - choose the domain/subdomain, type in the IP address or mail server record and you will be ready. You'll also be able to set different priority for the MX records which you create in case you choose to use a third-party e-mail provider and they ask you to set up additional records besides the 2 default ones. If you experience any difficulties, you will find a detailed Help section with videos in which you can see first-hand how to create or change any record.
